Kelly’s Ice Cream participated in a narrative workshop to clarify their overarching messaging which was tested and rolled out across the company, from trainings, to social media
Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream caught people’s attention when they first began producing the ice cream in 2015. Soon, they bought a pink ice cream truck and their company grew. Now, Kelly’s has six ice cream shops in Central Florida, as well as more than 35 locations in the region, within Foxtail Coffee Co. coffee shops.
In 2022, as the locations multiplied, it was tough for some front line employees to answer the questions, “Who is Kelly?” and “How did Kelly’s begin?”
So, the executive team called Clever Ibis to help them clarify and communicate their story.
Together with Clever Ibis, owners Scott and Kelly Seidl along with their executive team worked on narrative development for their brand. They clarified the beginning, middle and end of their company story, using storytelling best practices and data from customers.
In an executive team workshop, Clever Ibis helped the leadership team succinctly summarize the Kelly’s core brand narrative and history. Before the workshop, Clever Ibis visited multiple locations to gather testimonials from employees and customers about their needs, experiences and expectations. With Clever Ibis conducting these interviews, Kelly’s got a valuable source of insights that were helpful in shaping the brand story.
After the workshop, Kelly’s took the draft produced together to create a single paragraph company history in a way that resonates. Clever Ibis even piloted the new company story with customers, trainers and employees to make sure it would be salient and useful. The story went on to be used in employee training, web site copy, media interviews and social media posts. In addition, Clever Ibis crafted talking points and PowerPoint slide decks for employee all-hands meetings incorporating the refreshed story.
